Remember Joan is the account of a daughter beside her mother as they face a life disrupted by Alzheimer’s disease. The book opens with a wedding and closes with a funeral. Embedded between these two ceremonial rituals are two tales, the story of a mother’s decline and death due to Alzheimer’s and the story of the author’s relationships and life as the daughter of Joan. Humor is the family’s favorite coping strategy when damage control is necessary. In the end, this book is not only a tribute to Joan’s life, but a tribute to all who try to create a celebrated life with the people that surround them.

You'll laugh, you'll cry, you won't be able to put the book down! As the reader, we are invited deep into the lives of the author, Candace, and her mother, Joan...where we are told the secrets and feel the love exchanged throughout this family tree. When you finish the journey, you'll feel like you're part of the family too, as you mourn the loss of Joan, but can smile at the memories as we all "Remember Joan." A great book indeed, thank you for sharing your Alzheimer's story.

There is nothing like the love of a mother and daughter! I commend this writer in her ability to verbalize and share her loving story of what life was like caring for her aging mother with Alzheimer's . The compassion, love, patience and time that she offered her mom was unbelievable and a great example to all of us. I thank her for the insight into her family life and how it affected them all. Most of all, I thank her for showing us the importance of humour in a difficult time.I would recommend this book to anyone as a loving and heartfelt read.
